Symptoms

Games worked correctly untill approximately 21-22 May 2026. After a routine Ubuntu 24.04 LTS update and updating the NVIDIA driver, multiple Unreal Engine 5 games fail during startup.

The same behavior is also observed in:
Windrose
StarRupture
The Last Caretaker
All affected titles use UE5.

Non-UE-5 games such as Enshrouded, Everwind, and Aloft launch and run normally.

Proton Hotfix and Proton Experimental crash approximetly 20-30 seconds into loading.

GE-Proton10-34 remains active longer and eventually times out after 120 seconds.

Proton log and game log both show repeated GPU timeout messages. Subnautica 2.log contains Unreal Engine RendererThread timeout errors, and D3D12 Vulkan GPU timeout messages befoer the application exits.

Reproduction

1. Launch Subnautica 2 from Steam.
2. Loading screen and music begin normaly.
3. Proton Hotfix and Proton Experimental crash after approximately 20-30 seconds.
4. GE-Proton10-34 remains active for approximately 120 seconds.
5. No main menu reached

Occurs every launch attempt.
