Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Final Fantasy XVI (16)
  • Steam AppID of the game: 2515020

System Information

I confirm:

  • [_] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
(Other compat reports exists but do not pertain to this issue)
  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Steam Log: steam-2515020.log

Symptoms

The game freezes and then crashes during some cutscenes with the error
err:service:device_notify_proc failed to get event, error 1726
Gameplay outside of cutscenes works fine. Game can be continued if problematic cutscenes are skipped.

Reproduction

  1. Get the game on the latest version.
  2. Use Proton Experimental
  3. Use nothing but "PROTON_LOG=1 %command%" as launch options.
  4. Launch the game on a new game. Advance until you hit a series of three cutscenes (should be some expositional stuff about a war). Game crashes on third cutscene if not skipped.

Note:
A comment on ProtonDB suggested to apply FFXVIfix, use GE-Proton 10-34 (latest as of writing this) and using PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" game-performance %command% as launch options. FFXVIfix requires the use of WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b", PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 addressed a sound issue that is NOT present for me and game-performance simply does not work on my system (Ubuntu).
Regardless, after tinkering with this solution and eventually getting it to work, I face the same issue as described above while using GE-Proton.

Hello @Zinkfish, we're using one issue report per unofficially supported game title, so I've gone ahead and transferred this issue report to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/8317#issuecomment-4640885065.
