I just tried the linux_temp beta and was able to calibrate my headset, but the SteamVR tutorial wouldn't start. I still had a -203 error upon opening SteamVR.
SteamVR Beta Update has the same problem.
I gave the steam user password-less sudo privileges and my issues seem to be resolved.
Nothing extracted yet.
I recently got a Valve Index. Whenever I start SteamVR it detects all my devices then tries to get me to setup a play area. The little window on my monitor says "Oh no! SteamVR has encountered an unexpected problem. (-203)." Then it gives me the option to restart.
Upon restart, the vrcompositor seems to be work, but SteamVR doesn't actually do anything. At this point I can walk around the default background and nothing else. If I launch a game I can "bootstrap" SteamVR into running. The game will launch, not look right, then SteamVR will launch after I close the game.
If I ignore the warning and try to setup a play area it won't detect my headset.
A -202 error saying something about my headset not being fullscreen appears before the -203.
There are some other errors/warnings I've run into while troubleshooting attached as screen shots. The first screen shot also shows the -203 error I get.
