[BUG] "Headset Not Detected" for Meta Quest 3

Describe the bug

SteamVR doesn't seem to detect the headset.

To Reproduce

  1. Connect Meta Quest 3 via USB port
  2. Launch "Steam VR" from Steam Library
  3. Wait for "Steam VR" to appear

Expected behavior

A message about the headset configuration is supposed to appear

Actual behavior

"Headset Not Detected" error:

  • Steam client version: Steam Client Build Date: Wed, Jul 3 1:38 AM UTC -08:00

  • SteamVR version: beta 2.7.2

  • Distribution: Archlinux

  • lsusb entry for the headset: Bus 001 Device 058: ID 2833:0186 Oculus VR, Inc. Quest 3

  • Steam runtime diagnostics: I could not paste this text under a spoiler because Github refuses to create a post saying it exceeds 65536 characters, so here's a file steam-config.json

Meta Quest 3 does not natively support Linux SteamVR (for that matter I don't think the Quest supports SteamVR as a standalone runtime, requiring Meta's software to support it even on Windows). For that you're going to need a different VR runtime like WiVRn or ALVR
