Describe the bug
When you launch VRChat in SteamVR via Steam Link, and go into a world, the screen gets stuck on: "waiting...". You can hear the game audio in the background, but the game becomes completely unresponsive.

However, it seems to work in completely plain worlds, like the performance ones where its just an empty cube?

But, when you open it in "desktop mode" outside of VR, it works perfectly fine in all worlds? Very odd.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Connect to Steam VR beta via Steam Link with Quest 3
  2. Launch VRChat
  3. Wait for it to load into the world
  4. See error

Expected behavior
It shouldn't freeze and I should be able to play.

I'm on cachyos and using GE RTSP proton (allthough I have also tested a variety of other proton versions). Worlds also load fine in desktop mode for me. The issue seems to affect most other vr games as well including even the steam vr home environment, as soon as there's any relatively complex 3d geometry it gets stuck waiting. I had no issues with this before when using WiVRn and ALVR it only happens through steam link. I am running an NVIDIA 2070 Super with the latest driver available.

Same thing is happening for me. Thought it was related to the video players, but tested it in a lightweight video tester world (https://vrchat.com/home/launch?worldId=wrld_bcc3fb8b-6bbd-4ea8-991b-7f7da49c1a56) and it worked fine there.

It does seem to be any worlds that are a bit intensive geometry wise. I'm on bazzite 43. Works fine in desktop, works fine when using WiVRn, stalls out with waiting on steamvr link.

Tried a bunch of different versions of Proton GE/GE RTSP, but seems like it's a Steam Link problem mostly

This issue might be unrelated but I noticed that when you launch VRChat with steam link, the SteamVR UI will restart and give you the old UI for a brief moment after login

I suspect that this is what causes it to hang as it might be looking for that component and doesn't find it since it restarts

Furthermore, the GUI doesn't crash when using ALVR or when opening any other game I've tested, so it might be worth looking into

Good news!!!

On the latest Bazzite build, under the Steam Client Beta build and the SteamVR beta branch, with Proton GE, VRChat now works flawlessly with Steam Link VR!
