Hello @mayrack, this is the same issue as #836.
One option you could try is ppa-purging the kisak-mesa PPA and switch to either https://launchpad.net/~kisak/+archive/ubuntu/steamvr or https://launchpad.net/~kisak/+archive/ubuntu/turtle.

Describe the bug
When I launch SteamVR, I receive either error 496 or 497, with 497 being the most common. It's worth noting that it was working just fine on KDE Neon 6.5.2 before the most recent system and Mesa update; however, I have since reinstalled Neon and switched over to Kubuntu to test, and I am running in to the very same problem. The problem persists whether I am on the Beta, current, or previous branch of SteamVR.
Additionally, I have found a number of older posts talking about the very same issue, but cannot seeming find a clear answer as to what is causing it nor how to fix it.
To Reproduce

Expected behavior

Additional context
I do have updates for my hardware, but I seemingly cannot get them to run; when I hover over the icons and click on 'Update Device', the message disappears and nothing happens.
