[BUG] No Man's Sky Fails to Launch

Describe the bug
When launching No Man's Sky on 2.13.7 or 2.14.3 (current beta/RC), it does not start. The No Man's Sky window appears but disappears after a couple seconds.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Be running current or beta SteamVR
  2. Launch No Man's Sky in VR mode

Expected behavior
No Man's Sky should launch and run successfully allowing gameplay.

System Information (please complete the following information):

  • Steam client version (build number or date): Steam Version: 1763795278 | Steam Client Build Date: Sat, Nov 22 2:00 AM UTC -08:00
  • SteamVR version: 2.13.x (and applies to 2.14.3 (Beta) also)
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Bazzite (Fedora Atomic)
  • Steam runtime diagnostics: here

  • Minidumps: steam-minidumps.tar.gz

Hello @tyzbit, we're tracking issues with games run with Proton in the Proton issue tracker. Also, we're using one issue report per unofficially supported game title. There's some comments around https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/438#issuecomment-3444956600 that the game currently needs Proton Experimental to work with VR.

If the game doesn't start up with that variant of Proton, then please add a note to the compatibility report. Closing in favor of the compatibility report on the Proton issue tracker.
