Describe the bug
The steam game "Tethered", when run via proton through steam link, shows this dialog window in the screen (not the headset) at start then quits:

This is only when it is run through Steam Link. If it is run through ALVR (which also connects to SteamVR) and WiVRn, the game runs normally.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Connect to VR on SteamVR via Steam Link
  2. Go to the library game "Tethered" on SteamVR
  3. Click on play
  4. The VR window will show the Tethered cover for a bit, will go dark, but will get stuck. In the Linux PC screen, a black window will appear and shortly afterwards the dialog with the error message will appear.

I am sending two proton logs to help diagnose the issue. The first one is via PROTON_LOG=1 %command%. The second one, zipped due to the size, is verbose for VR stuff, PROTON_LOG=+vrclient,+openxr,+file %command%

Expected behavior
Game should play, it's the same PC as in this gameplay (only this is via WiVRn, which works): https://youtu.be/DAMo_VNldCk

System Information (please complete the following information):
Please use the latest Steam beta client and SteamVR beta for your bug reports!
The SteamVR beta version is at the same as the stable version -- 2.14.5 -- and that's the one I am using.
My system information: https://gist.github.com/Patola/9e8407c5e943fc34cbdf2a9c1d48a0eb

  • Steam client version (build number or date):
  • SteamVR version: 2.14.5
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Archlinux
  • Steam runtime diagnostics: [generate via Help -> Steam Runtime Diagnostics in the Steam client] https://gist.github.com/Patola/5f06ca9291e0201deeb26e8a4f4665f7
  • Steam and SteamVR logs: [generate by running this command in a terminal tar -zcvf ~/Desktop/steam-logs.tar.gz ~/.steam/steam/logs]
    -->

steam-logs.tar.gz

  • Minidumps: [run the following command: tar -zcvf ~/Desktop/steam-minidumps.tar.gz /tmp/dumps]
    -->

steam-minidumps.tar.gz

Additional context
As it runs normally with Proton 10.0-3 with other VR streaming software (ALVR and WiVRn), the problem is not in proton but steam link (and possibly not SteamVR, because ALVR connects to it).

I've also tested with other proton version -- 8, 9 and experimental, and the result is the same.

Hello @Patola, please use a more descriptive issue report title with this issue report and [#851](https://github.com/ValveSoftware/SteamVR-for-Linux/issues/851).

I'm not sure what happened, I could swear I typed a correct title.

Okay, I found the cause of this one! Haven't checked in the fix yet because it's 7:30pm and I wanna go home for dinner, but you'll see a "Fixed in Main" tag probably tomorrow. :)
