Describe the bug
SteamVR setup doesn't finish (superuser access fails).

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Install Steam-client flatpack from Discover and install SteamVR beta
  2. Start SteamVR
  3. Window opens - 'SteamVR requires superuser access to finish setup. Proceed?' > Click on 'Yes'
  4. Window opens - 'SteamVR setup is incomplete, some features might be missing. See Steam client logs folder for details.' > Click on 'Ok'
  5. No SteamVR-window appears

Expected behavior
SteamVR setup can be finished

System Information (please complete the following information):

  • Steam client version (build number or date): 1777411435
  • SteamVR version: Beta 2.16.5
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Fedora Linux 44 KDE Plasma (Wayland)
  • Steam runtime diagnostics: steam_runtime_diagnostics.txt

Additional context

  • When the setup fails, SteamVR is still running and can't be stopped - When I close Steam, the SteamVR window suddenly appears (But, of course, no connection is possible, since the setup isn't finished).
  • I want to use SteamVR with my Pico 4 VR (wireless with SteamLink)

Hello @flodex93, it's likely your use of Flatpak is an understated key detail here. I wouldn't be surprised if Flatpak is blocking pkexec setcap.

Hi @kisak-valve , thank you for your feedback! I uninstalled the Steam-client flatpack, removed all associated files (Option in Discover) and installed it via terminal:
sudo dnf install steam -y

Then I went through the steps again and I'm able to finish the setup! Thanks a lot.

Nothing extracted yet.
