Describe the bug
vrcompositor crashes with SIGSEGV on its IPC Listen:VR_C thread shortly after a Proton game connects and sends VRMsg_CompositorNewSharedBuffer. Happens every time with Distance (app 233610), with three different Proton builds.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Turn on Steam, Steam Frame, SteamVR
  2. Launch Distance in VR mode
  3. vrcompositor crashes, Distance continues playing
  4. On the Steam Frame, a "Waiting..." dialog appears for a while, but doesn't stream

Expected behavior
Distance runs in VR mode and streams to Steam Frame

Other scenarios

I can stream games in non VR mode fine.

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/openvr/tree/master/samples/hellovr_vulkan compiled with g++ and running with SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11 streams fine (controllers work, headset tracking, everything...)

Please could you try 2.18.3 beta and let us know if it works for you?

There were some related fixes in it and I believe they might resolve your issues.

Hello, I retested today with latest SteamVR beta (2.18.3) and happy to report Distance launches and runs fine (through Proton compatibility, not native build which doesn't seem to support VR).

P. S. From https://steamcommunity.com/games/250820/announcements/detail/705533459844565865

By default, Steam Frame controllers will now use gamepad input in VR games that don't support VR inputs. The preferred mode can be changed for any VR game in either the game's Steam Input settings or in VR Controller settings on the Now Playing page. Please report any titles that do not work out of the box. Requires Steam Beta and SteamVR Beta.

Steam frame's controller inputs still don't work as a regular gamepad in the games I tested (Distance, Redout Enhanced Edition)
