3000GiB ? You mean 3000MiB i hope :dancer:
I was wondering just how much RAM he had in that machine...
Oh, yeah 3000MiB =)
it seems memory is not freed when exiting big picture. i get about 100MiB more usage every time i open and close big picture.
please note that this leak has nothing to do with big picture mode, i had this leak when only running the steam client in the background.
@CommanderAlchemy - can you give more details about what Steam was doing (downloading, what windows, what's displaying, etc.) and what you are using to measure this? Before & after data will help as well.
I left Steam running all night on the Library window and saw data+stack (from /proc/[pid]/statm) increase by ~35MB. Sounds like some kind of leak, but not anything near 3GB in a couple hours.
The bug affects me as well. About 3 hours ago Steam used ~327MB, now it uses 675,5MB (and increases, it ate 671,8MB 5 minutes ago). Application stays minimized, I do nothing in it.
Sorry about this, I was out of town to respond to this bug. But Steam was launched as usual to library mode and was running with friends on nothing more.
Memory usage was spotted when i noticed that swap was getting used and the system was extremely slow. The memory usage was from the (KDE System Monitor) that's where the process information is pasted from.
Right now steam process uses ~191M (fresh start) Though i noticed that starts using very high CPU from time to time but thats another bug report.
Im having an extra eye on the memory usage right now to see if this issue is still there.
I started up steam a few days ago and I've been running it in the background without actually running any games. Today when I came home, my computer was slower than I've ever experienced it and when I check top I see Steam eating up 53% of my 6GB of memory. I had 20 bytes of swap left and felt a bit relieved when I managed to kill Steam before it killed my workstation.
Hm, still an issue it seems. Played today CS:S and then was going to Library and started Half Life. Looked recently into the Process Table in Ksysguard (KDE system monitor) and steam uses 350492 K Memory. Looked also in Community tab during gameplay and tabbed out/in couple of times.

Hi there,
Looks like Steam got some memory leak. Having Steam open for couple of hours my usage went to 3GiB.
