Everything in title, I hope this isn't duplicate

Can you describe your feature request in more detail?

Thanks.

Simply, like is there "Friends" when I click on "View friends list"... there can be also "Facebook friends" or "Friends from Facebook" etc. Just like an option of course.

And then people will require support for every IM service in the world … I think it would be easier if one could tap into the Steam chat with a client supporting multiple protocols.

If Steam became XMPP‐supporting and Steam chat itself was XMPP, you could have Facebook/GTalk conversations while in games, and conversations with Steam gamers from outside of Steam.
That might be a better, if larger, feature request, play3man.

Every chat service should switch to using XMPP, so everyone can talk to everyone else! I don't know why we still have all these incompatible services; it'd be like if you couldn't call your friend on the phone because they use Verizon and you're on T-Mobile.

Because they compete? You don't get the same benefits when calling between two operators either. One example would be the pricing.

@stevethepocket: Mobile operators are bad example since the protocol (GSM) is same for the operators, only the service provided is different (e.g. network coverage).

Nothing extracted yet.
