  • Opted into SteamOS beta?: Yes ( yes, but not for 3.5 )

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Since around the start of August Remote Play on the Steam Deck (it is possible this affects other streaming devices but I have not tested) has been plagued by numerous issues that seem related to each other. Before then it worked great on my current set up. This happens on all the update channels (Stable/Beta/Preview).

I am not sure if the issue here is with Steam OS or Steam Client. Also not sure if this is the right place to report this but I don't see any official tracker for the deck and the deck bug forums are not great for bug tracking.

Issues:

  1. Audio cuts out:
Audio will be fine when the game starts streaming but eventually all audio will cut out and will not work again until the game is restarted. The time is inconsistent but it usually happens within the first hour.

  1. Game hangs on exit:
The streamed game will hang on the deck when you exit it. The deck has to be rebooted via holding the power button to get the game to close. Despite the hang the game is closed on the Host machine with no issues.

For me this only happens after the audio drop out has occurred and it will exit normally before that.

  1. Double inputs:
The game will sometimes receive the same input twice. This is when using the Decks native controls.

Can't find any specific threads for this one but it is reported in the other threads.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Setup a PC for Remote streaming.
  2. Stream game to the Steam Deck via the native streaming.
  3. Play till any part of the issue happens.

I get all the same issues. Only noticed after updating to 3.4.10.

I don't know if this will help you, but I decided to try updating to the preview build. It didn't end up helping so I went back to the stable build (3.4.10) and all of a sudden the problems were fixed. Now remote play works perfect again.

Thanks for the info, I was having the issue before 3.4.10 unfortunately and have tried moving up and down versions. I have taken to using moonlight for now till the issue is resolved. Though I much prefer steams built in streaming.

I couldn't get it to work at all on 3.5 Preview, so I went back to 3.4 Stable which technically works, but I'm getting all the same issues that OP is describing. Sigh...

I too can say that I've been experiencing this issue and it's only gotten worse from 3.4.10 to 3.4.11. Used to only happen after an hour or so of playing, but now it happens within 5-10 minutes.
This has also been reported in various forums, which leads me to believe this is a widespread issue across devices.

Count me in as one of those waiting/hoping for a fix soon because
Steam Deck + Remote Play = my dream come true!

Nothing extracted yet.
