Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

When starting steam with gamescope -ebh1080 -- steam -pipewire-dmabuf -gamepadui or via gamescope-session (essentially any setup with steam inside gamescope) it is unable to find the display manager (GDM in my case), throwing this error message:

Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.DisplayManager was not provided by any .service files

GDM offers org.gnome.DisplayManager, which to my knowledge is aliased or forwarded to/from org.freedesktop.DisplayManager.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Run steam in BP through gamescope: gamescope -e -- steam -gamepadui
  2. Try to switch to Desktop
  3. Be left with the "Switching to Desktop…" dialog constantly blocking the view
