Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

After opening a game on Steam, i launch the overlay, go into the social panel and click on the button "add a friend". This makes the steam client crashes

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Open a game
  2. Open steam overlay
  3. Click the button "add a friend" in the social panel

What game are you reproducing this against? Also it looks like you may be using Proton GE, please confirm this issue against an official stable Proton release (Proton 8).

Thanks for your reply, I tested with:

  • Minion masters game with GE Proton custom 8.31/proton experimental/8.0.5
  • Helldivers 2 Proton Experimental/8.0.5
  • AimLab Proton 8.0.5
  • Tropico 6 with 8.0.5 and proton experimental

I reproduced the same issue everytime

Thanks - is this the friends list or when you mean "the social panel" it's the "recent players" dialog?

Thank you for the clarification. We cannot reproduce. You may want to test with the Steam beta client, although we suspect this issue is specific to your host and configuration. Depending on the type of crash, the Steam client should be writing out minidumps and uploading them. Please provide crash IDs for those when they get uploaded so we can look them up.

I tried the beta version and you were right, it still does not work.
By minidumps do you mean those i found in /tmp/dumps ?
(i found that in https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Steam/Troubleshooting (3. Debugging Steam))
