My pc is dual boot, this does not happen to me.
(windows 7 and openSUSE 12.2 )
It only happened the first time I started steam on linux.
I have on windows steam start up, on start up of pc.
Some games I play AvP and left for dead 2, don' t have Linux versions yet, but when I played LFD2 and then on linux Teamfortress 2, I do not have to sign in.
heiowge: Do you use any version of Steam Mobile (for instance on Android or iPhone) as well? That can cause this to occur.
I have a (related?) dual boot issue. I hope this is the appropriate place to post it; I was referred to GitHub by Steam Support. I don't use any form of Steam Mobile.
I am dual booting Windows 8 and Ubuntu 13.04, and running Steam on both (native, not Wine). When I switch between versions (which happens fairly frequently), I am forced to "redownload" all the games installed in that version. So, when I run Linux steam, I have to re-download all Linux games, and when I switch back to Windows, I'm forced to re-download all Windows games. I only have the games installed once -- Windows-only games in Windows, and games with Linux versions in Linux.
Redownloading games does not appear to use disk space -- my free space before the redownload, or "update" does not change before or after the download. And, the game files in SteamApps appear to have moved from "common" to "downloads". However, I cannot find save games. After allowing the game to "download" at my normal internet speed, Steam will eventually "find" my game files and it will be playable again, including my saves.

Both of these sound like my issue, but none of the solutions given work ... I am still forced to reinstall every game whenever I switch operating systems.

I use Linux for most things, but sometimes I have to boot to windows. Whenever I boot into windows after having steam on (or load steam for linux after loading windows), I have to face the fact that it assumes I'm on a new computer.
Please can you find a way to add support for those of us who dual-boot?
