Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Describe what you expected should happen and what did happen. Please link any large code pastes as a Github Gist

What i expected to happen:
Steam works normally fine. I am able to click on a game in my library, press play, and start playing the game.

While playing the game, it shouldnt freeze between cutscenes (tboi does this)

What happened:
Steam doesnt work normally fine. I am able to click on a game in my library, however the page on the right that should have the play button never loads.

While playing TBOI, i freeze after listening to the intro cutscene when you first start the game, and when you select a character at the black screen.

Steam doesnt allow me to open external windows. (Ex: cant open friends, cant go into steam> settings, anything that isnt the main window with my library wont open)

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Uninstall KDE
  2. Install XFCE
    2.1. Steam breaks
  3. Reinstall arch completely
  4. Steam is still broken (?)

Steam broke before i had reinstalled Arch, and once i reinstalled Arch, it broke with the same symptoms.

Additional symptoms:
Steam will work after a reboot, only temporarily. Steam will eventually break again, and any attempt to restart steam causes it to be broken the same way.
Steam will eventually completely crash.

I've narrowed down the issue.
1 - The cause is the steam controller, i believe
2 - Happened after an update.

I'm seeing what may be a similar problem using the steam controller. It started a few weeks ago. My system:

Steam client version (build number or date): 1.0.0.79-1 (1713825714)
Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Arch Linux
Opted into Steam client beta?: Yes
Have you checked for system updates?: Yes
GPU: RX 7900 XTX

When the problem first appeared a few weeks ago, I could navigate in Steam (big picture) with the SC, but couldn't launch any games or bring up the menu with the steam button. When I hit the play button for a game, it would simply never launch.

Since a system update a week ago, the steam controller is now completely inoperative in steam. I also can't bring up any external windows such as settings, and steam usually crashes when I try to close it.

If I don't turn on the steam controller, everything works fine.

After further testing, I've narrowed down my problem to the bluetooth stack. Steam works fine with the steam controller when it is plugged in to USB or when using the dongle.

It also works fine with versions of bluez prior to and including 5.72. I haven't tested with 5.73, but I do believe that is where the problem starts based on the install dates. Bluez 5.75 (the current version on Arch Linux) definitely has the problem. I hope to start tracking down the underlying issue in bluez this weekend.

can confirm, still an issue.

Any progress, @ashleybone ?
