It looks like you're running the 13.1 or 13.2 AMD drivers, is that correct? It's likely you're hitting a driver problem.
Not too sure as to the version - I installed from apt-get (it's the 'fglrx' package, not 'fglrx-updates'). Catalyst provides the following information:
Driver Packaging Version: 9.00.11-120920a-147436C-ATI
2D Driver Version: 9.0.2
Catalyst Control Center Version: 2.17
RandR Version: 1.3
That looks older to me (although I'm not an expert on AMD driver versions), and I'd suggest trying a newer one if you're comfortable with that.
I'll give that a go (using 'fglrx-updates' and report back!
That seems to have cured the problem - so 'fglrx' package is too outdated now.
Great, thanks for reporting back. I'm going to close this issue, but people doing a search will still be able to find it and see that fglrx has problems.
Nothing extracted yet.
I've recently installed Ubuntu 12.10 amd64. Steam installation and login are fine. However opening a chat window causes Steam to crash. I ran 'steam' via terminal and have the following output:
I've the outputted issues of missing the murrine theme and canberra GTK module leave me nonplussed. Both the murrine theme and libcanberra-gtk-module (and libcanberra-gtk3-module for that matter) are installed.
