UPDATE: After more testing, I have realized what is happening is related to how you back out of the controller menu. If you press B to return to the game, then gyro is deactivated. Instead, you must always choose "Resume Game" to return to the game with gyro activated. So, it may not necessarily be a bug, but IMO when you press B and are back in the game the controller menu should automatically return gyro to its active state in-game.
My apologies for the inaccurate report earlier.
Below is my original post just for reference.
I changed a control setting related to gyro and expected that change to take effect when returning to the game. Instead gyro was completely turned off, and would only work again after exiting and restarting the game. My control changes were saved and do work when the game is relaunched.
IN DETAIL: I have a SD OLED on beta channel. I recently noticed if I change any gyro related settings the gyro is then turned off completely, and does not turn on again unless the game is shut down and restarted.
FOR EXAMPLE: today I was playing Doom 3 using a gryo control setup that I downloaded by another user. I then decided to customize the gyro activation to only happen when the right trackpad is touched, and not when the right stick is touched. After that change, gyro simply no longer functioned at all. Once I quit the game and relaunched, the gyro was active again and my control changes were working (i.e. gyro activates only when the right trackpad is touched as I wanted).
I have also experienced this gyro control setup bug with other games, not just Doom 3. I don't think this used to happen, so I think it's a recent bug introduced in the latest beta updates. I wonder if this bug is also present in the preview builds.
Steps for reproducing this issue:
UPDATED:
Launch a game, and download a control setup with gyro
Enter the controller menu, and make some change related to gyro (not sure that is necessary)
Return to the game by pressing B and now gyro no longer functions in-game
In order to reactivate gyro in game, one must choose "Resume Game" and press A
