Keyboard input hangs/unresponsive after launching

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

After launching the client for the first time, trying to send a message to a friend or to change profile name will hang for several seconds before the rest of the input is completed.

I have tried this on

  1. a separate laptop (same OS) - to check that it's not a hardware/OS issue
  2. the flaptak installation - to check that it's not an issue with tumbleweed's steam package
  3. wayland - to check it's not an X issue

I see a recent issue https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/10957, unsure if related.

I have also tried changing my locale as I have seen https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/5738#issuecomment-531627411 be solved in a similar fashion, however that does not work.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Launch steam (from desktop app or from terminal)
  2. Try to send a friend a message, type several characters on the keyboard
  3. Observe that:
    1. One character will show up in the input
    2. No more keys will show as typed for several seconds
    3. After a small time period, all the rest of the typed keys will show in the chat box

I'm having a similar or exactly the same issue, but it's any text field.

I.e. after starting Steam, when typing something in any text field, for example:

  • Search the library
  • Search the store
  • Command line options for a game
  • (and presumably messages for friends, but I rarely if ever send messages trough Steam)

What I observe is exactly the same as OP. I.e. one charcters show up, and the UI hangs for several seconds. I haven't taken a time but it feels like 10 seconds or so. Then all characters I have tried to type appear suddenly.

If I don't restart Steam, the issue does not re-occur. But reliably on each and every first use of any text field.

Same here, Steam build: 1751317518

It happens on any text input field including launch options, store search and even when trying to type text with a controller in big picture mode.
