Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): 1718395788
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Linux Mint 21.3
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: Yes
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes
  • Steam Logs: steam-logs.tar.gz [new logs]
  • GPU: Nvidia

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I went to check journal logs as part of my daily check and I notice a lot of this specific warning in my logs "WARNING: discarding _NET_WM_PID 5 as invalid for X11 window - use specialized XCB_X11_TO_PID function!", I tested to see what provokes it and it appears to be written every time I open a different window.

Slight note: It forwards everything into my journal. Though it's not written to system logs, I can see everything srt-logger writes in my journal.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Start steam
  2. open a different already opened program (Discord, Firefox etc.)
  3. Check system journal

Is there a way for me to prevent it from writing to my syslog? It's very much cluttering up my logs and I just discovered it does write to syslog.log as well. Thanks in advance for any help :)

Switched to Beta and the message still appears in my systemlogs.

I'll close this. After thinking it through, this isn't really an issue, as everything functions normally. It's just annoying clutter in my logs. Unless the devs think otherwise.

Nothing extracted yet.
