Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Opening the Steam Button Shortcuts prior to opening it with a different controller type will cause it to display invalid glyphs and / or shortcuts.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Plug in a DualSense / Switch Pro Controller / DualShock 4 / Xbox controller.
  2. Press and hold the Steam button on the Steam Deck until the Steam Button Shortcuts are visible.
  3. Press and hold the PS / Home / Xbox button on an external controller.

Note: For desktop, simply do step #⁠2 with a different controller as step #⁠3.

Actual result

  • The Steam Button Shortcuts will correctly update the primary chord button (PS / Home / Steam), but won't update the associated face / joystick / trigger / bumper buttons. Opening the Steam Button Shortcuts with a DualShock 4 for example will therefore result in colored DualShock 4 style prompts to linger for any other controller until the device is rebooted. The list of available shortcuts is also affected by the type of controller (Switch, Xbox, Playstation, etc...) and connection type (Bluetooth or USB) used to initially invoke the Steam Button Shortcuts.

Expected result

  • The Steam Button Shortcuts are correctly updated to reflect the controller that was used to invoke it (shortcuts and glyphs).

As of Steam Beta (1771028361), holding the home button on an external controllers no longer opens the Steam Button Shortcuts and instead opens the new Power Menu which features a slightly different version of the Steam Button Shortcuts. It is therefore only possible to invoke the old Steam Button Shortcuts with the Steam Deck. The glyphs and shortcuts are therefore always correctly displayed.
