Hello,

One of the systems I've tried running Steam for Linux on is a laptop with Intel GMA graphics. While most things work just fine on that box, there is one very weird issue which has been around for more than a month now and seems not to be going anywhere... Namely, although it is entirely possible to open one of the top menus by clicking on it once a menu is open, it seems to be completely ignored by the mouse cursor: whatever I do with the latter affects only the main Steam window. For example: having opened the leftmost menu, moving the cursor through its contents moves the highlight through the underlying list of games and attempting to click on an entry selects a new game entry to display details for.

Hi, would you be able to provide more system information (I know if you cannot use the menus you cant use steam sysinfo), what distribution & version are you on, do you know the window manager and desktop environment you use?

Of course. The laptop in question runs 64-bit Gentoo Linux, with whatever versions of X.org and xf86-video-intel were the latest available on the stable path for amd64 on the 25th of January (haven't got the machine handy right now, will post details later if necessary). I normally use Awesome as the window manager and no desktop environment, however IIRC I have also tried this with Openbox and LXDE. Most of the time I have got a Composite manager (xcompmgr) running as well but switching it off doesn't change anything.

I can't repro any problems here, but I'm not running Intel.

I tested running Steam under the awesome wm with both nVidia (binary) and Intel graphics (Mesa 9.0). The menus seem to be working okay.

If you still see the issue, could you try pressing the help menu (which you indicate successfully opens the menu), then press the down arrow to select 'System Information' and press enter, and then post the information here?

If that doesn't work, then fall back to the output of glxinfo. (A 32-bit glxinfo would be more valuable since Steam runs in 32-bit mode.)

Forgot to post an update, sorry. One of the updates issued after I posted my report, not sure which one, solved the problem; IIRC I haven't seen it since mid-March.
