Here, I've recorded part of this bug and you can see how Steam window is closed automatically after game is launched.
When I've tried to open Store page - it's opened in game overlay, not in steam main window.
It's super random, like steam UI crashing is high chance
spawning dialog - low chance (most common is deinstall games. Also I had a "system info" dialogs spawning (like a lot of them), and once it was a chat with my friend, spawned maybe 50+ identical chat windows)
If any additional information required - plz, let me know
I'm encountering the same problem. It seems to not matter what game I open, within seconds the steam ui will crash in the background. I have reproduced this on bazzite and solus, currently on solus.

Did you experienced the bug when steam spawning dialog windows after crash of main UI?
And please, use gist.github.com to post system information.
My apologies. I didn't know I was supposed to use gist.github.com for system information. Here it is, and I've edited my original post to include it.
Here is also a screenshot of the steam ui bugging with an uninstall dialog box.
Not sure if you supposed to use gist, but it's some kind of an unwritten rule on github to paste a lot of text to gist to make issues comments more readable.
And yes, I had exactly the same "uninstall game" dialog when steam crashed in background. Sometimes it can spawn tens of this uninstall dialogs. And once it was hundreds of chat dialogs with my fried who wrote me a single message.
Today I've played HL2 20th Anniversary Update - and steam UI got crashed again.
I was thinking it can be a problem with other apps I'm using to run games, like: mangohud gamemoderun %command% in steam game command line. But I've played HL2 without this tools. So it's not related to additional tools like mangohud, cause distros like Bazzite or SteamOS is also using it by default in gamescope compositor.
same issue on NixOS-unstable so its not related to arch specifically
got Uninstall dialogs again during playing STALKER 2, just after getting achievement. Steam UI crashed, overlay partially worked. It's not related to achievements, cause I had the same when played Dota2, but something smells here. Calls to Steam API? Dunno.
Same issue on Arch playing Baldurs Gate 3. I repeatedly got uninstall windows while playing which, due to my window manager, always steals focus and moves the new window on top.
I initially found this thread because I have the issue mentioned here https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/11479
After switching to Beta the other issues happened less often but apparently I am getting unwanted uninstall windows now.
Same here... is there a way to revert to an old client version?
Still happening with the latest beta
Can confirm it keeps crashing, launched dota2 - instant crash of steam UI. Also affects overlay, like, can't open friends list in overlay.
Uninstall dialog spawned after I closed Dota2 and launcher Stalker2 game. Then it's spawned few times when I've played the game.
Dear Steam developers, if you need more info - just tell us.
I've found this in journalctl:
UPD:
It's just keeps spawning even if there is no game running, I was away from my PC for 15 min and when returned saw this:
https://gist.github.com/Bodyash/e047a48e73a8d51763b6598d9bb99402
Steam overlay crashed twice. I was playing Backpack battles. Then steam crash - and I see friend list spawned on top. Few seconds later - it's crashed again - and friend list spawned again. And I can't open steam main UI from system tray after this crash.
Looks like there is error in libcef (Chromium embedded?) causing steam UI to crash.
@kisak-valve can you confirm?
Got something new today, when moved a game to update first while downloading another game.
And yea, steam UI keeps crashing almost every time I launch a game.
Wow, again, some new dialog combination spawned after steam UI crash. Uninstall + Steam Remote Play error
Steam Beta (14.12.2024), latest ArchLinux
And yeah, almost forgot to mention - Steam crashed multiple times in backgroud (cause friends list spawned on top of the game few times)
Not using game recording, just in case.
Crashed again

Can confirm that disabling GPU acceleration for rendering web pages resolves issue.
@kisak-valve Any updates on this issue? Almost 1.5 month passed. I really wanna help to resolve this issue.
How do you disable hardware acceleration? Mine crashes in a loop, the only thing I can do is start it -silent and play whatever that was recent and tray remembers. And also remote play works
I can't find anything relevant in local/share/steam/config
Any workaround is very welcome
I'm on Ubuntu 24.10 and I can confirm I'm experiencing this also.
It seemed much better after disabling GPU acceleration, but I just experienced it again after playing Factorio for a few hours.
Please let me know what I can provide and I'll help any way I can.
UPD: Still not fixed.
I was hoping this would be fixed in client version 1737404083 (the latest stable), but it's still happening, and disabling GPU accelerated rendering in web views is still the workaround. Unfortunately that also has the knock-on effect of disabling hardware video decoding and the use of HEVC for Steam recording.

I think we need to wait until Valve update CEF in new steam beta, cause for me it looks like CEF library issues.
Still crashing
Still happening with steam client version 1745457196
still happens with steam client version 1751405894
Same for me. I've experienced this issue on and off since some time last year. There's also nothing in the logs which gives any hint, the output after launching a game looks exactly the same whether or not it happens.
One thing I have noticed is that for me, it seems to happen only when I set my status to offline in the Friends menu. For some reason, after starting a game, Steam will set my status to online again and bombard me with popups (including shutting down, new driver available for your gamepad, etc...) as described here.
