Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): 1730853027
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): ArchLinux
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: No
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes
  • Steam Logs: steam-logs.tar.gz
  • GPU: AMD

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

The Steam client is trying to start infinitely; a blank Steam window appears, followed by a blank ad window, which then closes after a second. They restart after a few seconds, and this cycle continues. There's an icon in the system tray, but I can't launch anything through it. I tried deleting all Steam directories, uninstalling and reinstalling it, but the issue persists.

Hello @Yakoot, please give #9383 a read and check if that's the issue you're seeing.

yes, looks the same, but nothing helped

  1. desktop entry already has PrefersNonDefaultGPU=true and X-KDE-RunOnDiscreteGpu=true, I also tried to remove it
  2. -vgui
  3. I have no integrated GPU on my AMD 5600X so no option to disable it

switched to flatpak version, it works

I was having this issue as well, but I saw some complaints about my gtk theme (which I had recently changed) in my steam logs. I reset my gtk theme back to the defaults and then retried starting steam and it worked. Once steam started once I was able to go back to my usual gtk theme and start steam normally.

Who knows if what I did actually fixed the issue, but it might be worth a try.

I saw some errors about gtk theme css syntax but switch to default theme did not help
