Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): 1733265492 (Stable) / 1734061824 (Beta)
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): SteamOS 3.6.20 / 3.7.0 (Deck) and Manjaro w/ Gnome 46 (Desktop)
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: Yes. Issue is present on both Stable and Beta
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes
  • Steam Logs: steam-logs.tar.gz
  • GPU: AMD Van Gogh RDNA 2.0 (Steam Deck) and RX 7800XT (Desktop)

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

When releasing Steam + L1 to exit out of magnification, the device can occasionally remain magnified. The user must press the shortcut a second time or toggle the Steam / Quick-Access Menu to disable the magnification. Magnifier controls do not function in this state, it only maintains magnification (unless the game is set to Mouse / Keyboard in which case you can still pan around). Attempting to open the Steam or Quick-Access Menu while while the magnifier shortcut is being held will also disable magnification and cause the issue to occur upon release.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Launch any title on Steam Deck.
  2. Press and release Steam + L1.
  3. Repeat #2 until the issue occurs.

Reproduction Rate: 1/3

Affected Platforms

  • LCD / Jupiter: Yes
  • OLED / Galileo: Yes
  • Desktop Deck-like session (gamescope -e -- steam -gamepadui -steamdeck): N/A
  • Desktop: N/A

Note: Magnification does not appear to be supported on Desktop even though it appears in the Steam Button Shortcuts screen in Big Picture Mode. Running in a Deck-like session (i.e. with Gamescope) also does not appear to allow this functionality (https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/9188)

Actual result

  • Sub-menu visually collapsed onto the primary context menu and the primary menu's visual styling partially breaks.

Expected result

Notes

  • This can also be reproduced via ... + L1.
  • This issue could not be reproduced when using an external controller (PS / Xbox + L2 / LT).
  • This is purely speculative, but it seems like the button release order affects the reproducibility (i.e. if the Steam button is released first it seems to repro easier).

For what it's worth, I've found this more beneficial than harmful and would prefer it to be a feature with an easier method to enable the magnifier and release the button combination.
