Hello @shishimaru90, did you try searching for Proton in your Steam library -> go to Proton's per-game properties -> Installed Files -> click Verify integrity of tool files? Also, if you completely close Steam, then run steam from a terminal, does it give a better hint to ponder when you try to run a game with Proton?
Steam treats Proton as a game dependency when any game is configured to use that particular Proton version. You should tell Steam to use a different version of Proton with the various Windows based games before trying to uninstall that version.

Hi there.
I’m using Bazzite and I play Steam games on a separate Btrfs partition.
I don’t know why, but all of a sudden the games can’t be launched anymore since I get a generic error with the compatibility tool.
I went to check the Steam folder and I see that, for unknown reasons, the Proton folder is empty. If I change proton version, nothing different happens.
I’ve tried to reinstall a game, nothing again.
I’ve tried to erase the Proton, compatdata and shadercache folders, but the proton folder only gets created (empty).
If I check the installed games/apps via Steam settings, I see that Proton Experimental is there, but Steam won’t let me remove it (I was hoping that, after removing it, Steam would re-download everything).
I even tried with Steam flatpak and an OS reinstallation. Should I format the whole gaming partition and all the Steam folders at this point? It's like the client isn't downloading the needed files.
