Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): 1733265492 | Jan 11, 2025
  • Distribution : Arch Linux
  • Opted into Steam client beta: No
  • Have you checked for system updates: Yes
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT
  • Steam Logs: steam-logs.tar.gz

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Start PC
  2. General use for (web browsing, text editing, etc...)
  3. Start any game extremely bad FPS for both native linux and by proton for reference my PC can easily hit 200 FPS in CS2, 60 in Witcher 3 and when I am having this problem 30, 15 FPS
  4. Restart and launch game it works 100% of the time

Notes:

  • I can not tell about other Game Launchers because I don't use them.
  • It is not a temperature problem. I am using pre-caching.
  • Steam restart does not fix it.
  • I haven't done any special changes. Linux and steam were installed as per the arch wiki.
This might not be a steam issue but I have searched it and people are having this problem and no one knows how to fix it if you know the solution please tell, even tough it might not be a steam issue.

Yeah, this happens for every game after having my PC on for a while, it's not a steam issue since it also happens in beamng linux native which is launched outside of steam. I'm using opensuse. It never starts lagging during a game session, only after ending one and opening another or the same game

This sounds like https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/work_items/2950#note_2763457.

I currently have the same issue on arch.
Edit: Using and AMD graphics card (exactly the same as the issue creator)
