Switching to the Beta update channels brings the latest Steam OS version up to 3.6.21 and the latest client to 1737160107. The issue persists.

Guide button skipped due to chording
messages when the guide button is pressed. Can you go to settings->controller->calibration and try adjusting the deadzone of the joysticks higher? Or in test inputs seeing if any of your input seem to be active all the time? The joystick seems like the most likely candidate, but triggers or trackpad activation could also cause it.
I adjusted the calibration up to 13192 on both sticks, the issue persists.
Test inputs indicate no always-on input. Joysticks, triggers and trackpads are nominal. However the Y button hasn't responded in 3 days and isn't working. I've ordered a space ABXY button set and a spare membrane.
Interestingly when testing the deadzone for the joysticks, the "STEAM" and "..." buttons act as a Y button.
A factory reset reverts the Steam client version to 1714854927 and solves this issue until a reboot automatically updates to Steam client version 1733265492 (Dec 3rd), and the issue with the "STEAM" and "..." buttons reoccurs.
I replaced the button rubber membrane and the ABXY buttons. ALl buttons, including the Menu and Quick Settings buttons, now operate as expected.
Hello @thediamondgeezer, glad to hear it's behaving for you now. That makes this more of a hardware issue than a software issue and there's not really any action for a Steam dev to take in response.

"Steam" (Menu) and "..." (Quick Settings) no longer bring up the menu or quick start respectively. A hardware test shows both buttons work well.
I tried on my son's 256GB model and no problem on his, both buttons work.
