To be honest I don't even know how to title this bug, anyways

Your system information

  • Steam client version: 1733265492
  • Distribution: Arch Linux
  • Window Manager/DE: Hyprland
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: No
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes
  • Steam Logs: steam-logs.tar.gz
  • GPU: AMD

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

When launching a game from the steam library, with the friends window and the Steam library window in the same workspace, the game will launch normally, however, steam will start to act weird. I launched the game Tekken 8 to test this more thoroughly. I went into practice mode and pressed a few buttons on my gamepad.
Upon launching the game, it starts sending the "Access steam features from the overlay while playing" notification several times in a random time interval. Image example:

  • When running steam from the terminal the following line appears multiple times and in sync with the overlay notifications.

BuildCompleteAppOverviewChange: 644 apps

Also, sometimes a pop up window will appear asking if I want to uninstall some games, like the image below:
Image

This dialog can appear once or multiple times, or not at all.

When the notification spam stopped, I closed the game as intended (Return to main menu > Quit). And after the game window closes, the main Steam client window is not open anymore, only the Friends window.
Sometimes there will also be a notification for "Remote play error" even though i never tried doing remote play at anytime during the tests.

Also, the Friends window will also look broken, like the exemple:

Sometimes only the game icons will fail to load, and sometimes, players profile pictures will have that "unable to load image" icon on top of their actual profile picture (which i'm assuming is the avatar frame not loading). Like it happens to my profile, marked in red.
The Steam client window won't open again, right clicking the Steam system tray icon and clicking "Store", "Library" or "Community" won't do anything, only the Friends window that will close and open normally, but with the same issues. The only solution is clicking "Exit Steam" and launch Steam again.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Launch Steam and open the Friends window
  2. Launch a game and play it for a while (in my case, Tekken 8 and played practice mode for a while)
  3. Exit the game

Possible duplicate of #11449.

Looks exactly like my issue: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/11449

Friend list showing "broken images" after steam client UI crash. Random dialogs. Can't open library anymore, etc...

Temporary fix - disable GPU acceleration in steam UI settings.

I did search the issues, but couldn't word it properly to find anything related, sorry. Thanks @Bodyash I'll try that fix

I'm experiencing this issue on Steam stable client version 1747701111 on Fedora 42 GNOME.

The popups I get are usually to add a non-steam game to my library, and they occur about 10-15 seconds after game launch. At the same time, the Steam main window pops up, showing its typical shutdown message, but the client does not actually shut down. I must kill and restart the client before I'm able to interact with Steam again.

This behavior doesn't occur on every game launch.

If I'm able to record this behavior, I'll update this comment.
