Reproducible by launching TF2, opening console, and typing:

Failed to launch startmovie! If you are trying to use h264, please make sure you have QuickTime installed.
Started recording movie, frames will record after console is cleared...
it accept avi (fails aswell) & raw, would be nice to add webm now that option exists for us.
I've hooked this up (may be another week or so before it goes out though) but this console command is not very useful even on Windows/Mac. You pretty much have to have sv_cheats turned on to use it and even then the engine playsback is at wacky speeds. Since it does this (and more crazy things) on Windows/Mac as well there isn't much I can do about it. I really can't recommend using this at all. But it is now hooked up to the webm save engine on Linux. The real replay system (with UI) is much better about getting a viable framerate.

When using the "startmovie whatever h264" command, the movie start fails with an error message saying quicktime is not installed.
