Your system information

  • Steam client version: 1740011728
  • SteamOS version: 3.6.21
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: [Yes/No] Yes
  • Opted into SteamOS beta?: [Yes/No] Yes
  • Have you checked for updates in Settings > System?: [Yes/No] Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

When you "remove command" from a button, it should still be in the controller configurator UI, just empty. Instead, it fully disappears. In case of some buttons like eg the select button, it means that the button can never be assigned to again until you fully reset the layout, losing all your work

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Go into controller config
  2. Go to some button that's been assigned
  3. Press A on the cog wheel
  4. Select "remove command"
  5. The button fully disappears

I haven't checked if the same thing also happens for joysticks and other kinds of inputs, but I can imagine yes.

This looks like a bug and fully unintended. It also screws up the UI layout a bit.

Can you provide screenshots and what controller you used to create this bug. I'm unable to reproduce this.

this was on a Deck LCD using SteamOS beta, let me try and repro for you

can't reproduce, but I'm not on that SteamOS or client version anymore. Tried on both steam decks. Can you try checking with that version? I'm not sure how to downgrade. Otherwise I'm fine with you closing this one if you can't reproduce. Thanks.

I'm not Steam affilitated. Just doing bug hunting as a hobby. I don't have access to github moderation to close the issue. I've been instructed before that if you don't have the issue any more and it affects nobody else, you can just close your own bug reports.

Gotcha. Yeah, makes sense, I think I'll close it then. Thanks for checking in!

If you want a bug to chase, then try looking into cursors (up and down) on the pop-up keyboard crashing the terminal in desktop mode. That's no fun!

I'm aware of that bug. https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/11538

Curiously it only affects the terminal and nothing else.
