Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Describe what you expected should happen and what did happen. Please link any large code pastes as a Github Gist

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Open Steam in big picture mode with controller enabled and connected
  2. Hold down the guide button on any compatible controller (works on Dualsense, Razer Wolverine and Original Steam Controller)
  3. Controller turns off
  4. Help menu does not disappear

Expected behaviour

I expect one of the following to be true:

  1. The help menu can be disabled
  2. The help menu can be dismissed by clicking somewhere on the screen outside of the help menu
  3. The help menu gets dismissed because it detects that no controller is currently connected and active.

Actual behaviour

The help menu remains as an overlay and cannot be dismissed unless I also exit big picture mode.

I expect that the help menu removal is bound to the guide button up event, which it never receives, because the controller gets disabled. As such, I think a fair solution would be to allow me to bind it to any other input via a different input method, e.g. a different controller.

I'm unable to reproduce this on desktop BPM as well as Steam Deck. The help menu disappears as soon as the controller shuts down. In my opinion this shouldn't happen because some controllers have a very quick shutdown timer (for example Steam Controller) which makes reading the help menu painful.

This is probably fixed. With a steam controller it now brings up a special menu to show bindings without needing to hold the guide button
