Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

While streaming Monster Hunter Wilds from my Windows PC to Steam Deck the controls have been working as expected since the launch date. However today all input from Steam Deck has stopped working when streaming the game.

Yesterday I bound R4 to B, I have seen similar reports of input not working after binding something to the back buttons on Steam forums and Reddit. I don't know if it's specific to those buttons or if any input customisation will trigger it.
I also encountered the same issue during the open beta weekend.

Changing the mappings or applying templates doesn't help.

When in the controller settings in the steam overlay I can see some odd behaviour, namely there seem to be less template layouts than I remember, and the controller template layouts don't seem to include bindings for L2 and R2 but they definitely do usually.

Generally seems like something in the controller config for this title is now broken and it can't be recovered by applying templates. It's really hard to know exactly what the source of the problem is though, I'm just assuming it's a Steam input issue based on the circumstances.

I was on the stable channel when I first encountered the issue. I opted into the beta channel to see if that would help. Same behaviour on both.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

Best as I can remember these are the steps. Unfortunately I can't test the repro since I can't reset the controller config to a state that works again.

  1. Stream Monster Hunter Wilds from PC to Steam Deck (you must disable DLSS for streaming to work, and you may need to launch the game on PC and let it boot to menu before connecting from Deck)
  2. Observe dpad input from Steam Deck is working in main menu
  3. On Steam Deck, open the steam overlay and navigate to controller settings
  4. Bind the R4 back button to the B face button
  5. Quit the game via the menu
  6. Repeat step 1
  7. Observe dpad input from Steam Deck no longer works

I tested this again last night on the latest stable release and it seems to be fixed, along with the DLSS streaming issues (streaming also connects much faster, which is awesome).

Huge thanks to everyone involved in the fixes!

I'll reopen if I mess with the controls and manage to repro, but for now this seems to be resolved.

Nothing extracted yet.
