Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

In Steam > settings > compatibility, I enabled steam play for all other titles. In the dropdown, I chose proton 9.0-4.

Expected result: Run all games with proton 9.0-4, unless overridden per game.

Actual result: Unless overridden per game, all games run with "Steam Linux Runtime 1.0 (scout)

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Go to Steam > Settings > Compatibility
  2. Switch on the toggle to enable steam play for all other titles
  3. Choose "Proton 9.0-4" in the dropdown that appears
  4. Check details for any games that don't have a proton override in their individual settings
  5. See "Run on this computer via Steam Play. Steam Linux Runtime 1.0 (scout)" instead of the proton version selected in global settings.

Hello @jasoncollege24, Linux native games take priority over their Windows counterpart when the game developer provides that option. Steam Linux Runtime is automatically selected for that scenario for increased consistency between distros.

This issue is already being tracked at #7877. Closing as a duplicate.
