Hello @DC-19, Attempts to disable split_lock_detect have not improved the situation. the split lock spam is an issue being tracked at #8003 and you've already determined it's not a factor in the more significant system-wide freeze you're reporting. Let's use this issue report to focus on the more important issue.
Ok. I will try to describe the system freeze more thoroughly. After the random amount of time after starting steam, the system will freeze for a few seconds. After that, the system unfreezes, but runs at 2-4 fps, and this does not improve after either closing Steam, nor killing the Steam application. Are there any other logs that I could provide, or other system information that would help when diagnosing this issue?
Same here. Probably started happening a week ago.
Kubu 24.05. 6.14.0-17-generic. nVidia-570.
Just having the steam client open will render the system unusable for about 5 mins. intermittently.
Purging Steam Client and Chrome 100% resolved the issue.
I will try to provide more details later.
Also Steam client regularly prompts for the download and install of WINE-MONO.
Doing this does nothing tostop the wine-mono download install prompting.
I also noticed this in Ksystemlog.

Your system information
Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:
Steam will run for a period of time, then freeze the whole system. Logs generated (log.tar.gz)
suggest that steam is causing split_lock errors during runtime, eventually leading to the system freezing. This was determined via the Debian Forums. Attempts to disable split_lock_detect have not improved the situation. Any help is appreciated, and additional information can be provided upon request
Things that I have already tried:
Rebooting system (many times
Verifying the integrity of Steam
Reinstalling Steam
Enabling and disabling virtually all settings within steam
