I was trying to reproduce this with a SteamDeck OLED with different percentages and I could not -- neither the charging-icon nor the percentage stuck. The percentage decreases at the normal rate (1+ minutes for each 1%), and the 🔋 icon in the top-left corner with the ⚡ present changes within a few seconds to the battery witohut it.
I tried the same version mentioned and also some betas.
Did it happen with any 3.7 before, or have you just jumped from 3.6.24 to 3.7.8? Is your model OLED or LCD?
I tried to replicate it again and it seems to be working normally now. It just fixed on its own.
If it still helps, I have a LCD model and jumped straight from 3.6.24.
[3.7.8] Battery indicator is stuck at 80% and charging
Issue transferred from https://github.com/ValveSoftware/SteamOS/issues/1918.

3.7.8 introduced the battery charge limit feature. After enabling it and limiting my charge to 80%, I plugged in my Steam Deck and leave it to charge. Unplugging the Steam Deck after waking up from sleep will have the battery indicator stuck at 80% and charging. MangoHUD and Desktop Mode still shows the correct battery state and charging status.

second this. LED light remain white also, never turn to green indicator.
Have this too. Enabled battery limit, charged the battery to 80% while SD slept, disconnected the charger, played about half an hour, closed the game, battery indicator still shows 80%. Rebooted - shows 65% and dropping normally over time. Charged again to 80% during SD's sleep - stopped dropping again. Rebooted - reports discharge normally again.
Deck OLED. Steam OS 3.7.8 release, updated from 3.6.
This seems to happen consistently if the Steam Deck goes into sleep, reaches the battery limit, and then wakes up. Just tested and it seems to be very consistent on my end.

To save people a click, here's the description I mistakenly filed on that other issue tracker (SteamOS#1922) under the assumption it was Deck-specific, that got closed as duplicate:
- SteamOS version: 3.7.8
- Opted into Steam client beta?: No
- Opted into SteamOS beta?: No
- Have you checked for updates in Settings > System?: Yes
Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:
Expected: Should still work as it used to
What happens: it sticks to whatever number it picks up first and stays thereSteps for reproducing this issue:
- Enable battery charge limit
- Reboot and then let the battery charge or dischage for long enough that the numbers should change (you can check the real charge in parallel with the performance overlay)
- Note the discrepancy
- Disable it
- Repeat step 2 and note it actually does work without the limiter.

For some reason I cannot reproduce it, even if for some of you it happens consistently and several of you give very concrete repro steps (thanks for that!). I suppose that it's some detail that I am missing or some strange interaction or hardware detail.
Anyway, there's a fix going out in 3.7.9 (in Beta right now, in Stable in a few days) that fixes one possible case where these updates to battery status could get stuck, although not sure if it's this will fix the case that you're experiencing for the reasons explained.
We appreciate the feedback if you can test it, to see whether it fixes the problem or not.
I was about to test the beta, but before I had the chance to switch there was yet another update alert for the same 3.7.8 version (I'm on the 4th install of the same version by now I think, I've seen others mentioning repeated updates on the forum as well, so it's not just me; but I haven't checked if you got a report filled on the repeated update bug yet), and now my repro procedure doesn't seem to be bringing up the issue anymore. So maybe it's a little more complicated than just the GUI itself, but some sort of subtly corrupt update or something of the sort?
For @caseszz , @aannenko , @j1nxie , @TiagoTiago :
3.7.8 or 3.7.9?At the point when the main interface shows the percentage (top-right) that you suspect/know is as stuck, could you please check the charge level with the ... button (Performance ⚡ tab), like the one below (in my case it's not stuck, it's just that I set the limit to 71%).
currently on 3.7.8, build 20250522.2, i haven't seen the problem pop up again.
This seems way more unpredictable than it appeared to be at first glance. The other day I thought after that repeated update to 3.7.8 (stable) it had stopped, but I just checked now, with the limiter disabled, and it isn't updating. "Full" on the sidebar, "99%" on the status bar indicator, even after discharging to 88% according to the performance overlay.
Rebooting made it work again, and switching on the limiter still doesn't seem to be triggering it anymore.
@TiagoTiago thanks. In your case, just to be sure, it's better to wait until 3.7.9 to see if the situation improves, please report back once you upgrade.
3.7.8 Stable
20250522.2
@manuelafm, the battery reports discharge normally now, thank you!
actually, with a bit of further testing, it seems like my limiter setting is straight up not being respected anymore. enabling it still has my Deck charging to full.
I am still on 3.7.8 (20250522.2). I've tried toggling it on and off again alongside rebooting my Deck, to no avail.
Also experiencing this on 3.7.8 (20250522.2). Restart has always resolved it.

Is it a basic SteamOS installation, or do you have some tools installed like Decky or Powertools? Some people have been reporting interferences of these plugins with the charging levels.
In any case, please check with 3.7.9 when available and see if it resolves things, thanks.
Hi, I'm on 20250522.2 (stable channel always) I did activated once the charge limit after the update to the latest stable, but is deactivated now, and when the battery icon reach 99% it get stuck and only after a reboot the charge level is displayed correctly.

Just got a notification for the "June 2nd" update, no explicit version number, should I go for it?
edit: nvm, went to Desktop mode for unrelated reasons and now the notification is gone...
Are you still experiencing the issue of the percentage getting stuck, if you OS version is 3.7.9 or later?
If so, can you please check if the % in the top-right and in the right-side menu is the same?
(instructions in https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/12041#issuecomment-2919092187)
Currently at version 3.7.13, the battery indicator does not get stuck anymore.
Right now on 3.7.13 the performance HUD and the normal GUI are agreeing on the values, and it does go up and down with charge. Seems to only rarely be at exactly 100% even after being plugged for a while, I dunno if that's the software protecting the battery because I do keep it plugged often (happens even with the recent option disabled), or if it's just sign of the battery (or maybe the charger) aging a bit.
Your system information
Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:
After activating the battery charging limit to 80% and playing for a few minutes, the battery got stuck at this percentage after unplugging the charger. The icon stills shows charging, while the percentage itself freezes. It seems to be a visual bug on game mode, since the indicator stays correct on desktop mode and performance overlay. Only restarting the deck fixes the issue.
