Seems part of the solution is for people that use these Atari Modern Controllers is to use Atari's OS to update the controller firmware.

If an affected user appears and wants to tinker with an outdated firmware quirk, then their best option to to see if that firmware is uniquely identifiable and follow up with SDL.
