I am experiencing two issues with Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) on Arch Linux using the Hyprland Wayland compositor:
System Details:
Operating System: Arch Linux (up to date as of September 3, 2025)
Desktop Environment/Compositor: Hyprland (Wayland)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology B650E AORUS ELITE X AX ICE
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (16 threads) @ 5.05 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070Ti
RAM: 32GB DDR5 @ 6000 MHz, CL30
Graphics Driver Version: NVIDIA 580.76.05
Steam Version: 1.0.0.82-2
CS2 Launch Options: SDL_VIDEO_DRIVER=wayland %command% -threads 9
Steps to Reproduce:
Launch Steam (version 1.0.0.82-2) on Arch Linux with Hyprland (Wayland).
Start Counter-Strike 2 with launch options: SDL_VIDEO_DRIVER=wayland %command% .
Play a match or attempt to access the Steam Overlay (Shift+Tab).
Observed Behavior:
CS2 crashes unexpectedly during gameplay.
The Steam Overlay fails to appear when pressing Shift+Tab in-game.
Additional Information:
I have verified game files through Steam and confirmed my system, including NVIDIA driver 580.76.05, is fully updated.
The SDL_VIDEO_DRIVER=wayland launch option is used to force Wayland compatibility, but issues persist.
Switching to an X11 session resolves the steam overlay issues(I'm not sure of gameplay because on x11 i can't play 4:3 resolutions, so thats why I prefer using Hyprland on Wayland for its performance and features.
Are there known compatibility issues with CS2 and the Steam Overlay on Wayland, particularly with Hyprland, NVIDIA GPUs (driver 580.76.05), and the SDL_VIDEO_DRIVER=wayland launch option? Could you provide any workarounds or confirm if patches are in development? Thank you for your support!
