Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I ran into this issue after updating Valheim where the valheim_Data folder was renamed to Valheim_Data (with a capital V) but only the case changed and Windows uses a case-insenstive filesystem, so the local directory was not renamed. This does causes problems on Linux though which crashed game on startup and validating the files did not fix any problems.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Change the case of a game sub-folder
  2. Validate the files
  3. Launch the game (it crashes)

Can confirm. I had the Linux version of Valheim installed before 2025-09-17, with valheim_Data folder.

After the game update on 2025-09-17 which renamed the folder to Valheim_Data (in both Linux and Windows versions), my local install still has valheim_Data

Verifying the game files does not change the name.

Related #577, but important to note this affects updates, not just verifying
