After starting Steam, the X window system slows to a crawl: roughly 1 fps. That is on all workspaces, all applications. It seems to be related to something steam is doing because if I let it sit for a couple minutes, framerate goes back up. But when I start a game, the framerate goes back down again.
I expected the framerate and performance of the system to remain while running steam.
