If you're listening to a soundtrack and the audio output device changes, playback will stop working in steam. The only fix is to restart steam.

Unplug headphones
Soundtrack playback no longer works, pressing play causes the playback to quickly move through the track list, failing to play each track, until it reaches the end and stops
