Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible: Client will constantly restart in the background while I'm playing a game. These restarts appear to trigger when I execute certain actions in game, for example clicking a menu option.

Additionally the Steam Overlay itself appears to be having issues in game where it becomes super sluggish and even unclickable at times. Example would be trying to click on my achievements and it takes ~5 seconds for it to load and then even the search function each key press is taking ~5 seconds to register on the screen. This issue isn't seen in the regular Steam client, however there are still UI issues like some menus not wanting to load unless clicking multiple times.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Run Ubuntu 25.10
  2. Launch a game and start playing, this alone should be enough, if not the games I was able to recreate the issue were Night Swarm and Totally Accurate Battle Simulator
  3. Steam client should restart and interrupt your game

Hey,

Same thing started happening to me a couple of weeks ago. I'm away from the PC at the moment, so I can't upload my logs.

A workaround that worked for me was disabling the in-game overlay. That seemed to stop the constant steam restarts while in-game.

The same happens to me on Arch Linux since months now.

I applied the same workaround as @Starkie, disabling the in-game overlay and avoiding launching the chat part of the client helped.

Nothing extracted yet.
