When whatever game is launched after the system boot (no matter how much time has passed), it always runs with unpleasant stuttering, which can be fixed by restarting this game.
Actually, that's how it was on my previous setup with X11 and the Steam client obtained from Ubuntu's repo. Now, after a fresh system re-install with Wayland and Steam from Valve's binary, the in-game overlay has become the thing that lagging horribly instead, while the gameplay itself seems to be OK. As in the first case, the workaround is to restart the game once.
And one more noteworthy thing: if one game has already been loaded, any other game after that will run without the described issues.
