Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

When the maximized main window is closed and re-opened without exiting Steam completely, it doesn't stay maximized and instead reverts to its default size. I would expect it to still be maximized after re-opening it, which used to be the case in the past. If I switch to the stable branch (version 1766451605), it stays maximized after re-opening, as expected. This could be related to #12629, but the details are different.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Launch Steam
  2. Maximize the main window
  3. Close the main window
  4. Re-open the main window via the systray menu, for example by clicking "Library"

Still happening with version 1769025840, which is now the current version in both the stable and beta branch, leaving me with no workaround.

My issue was resolved, try removing old / broken simlinks, in your steam directory

I tried it with a completely fresh Steam directory, but that didn't help. The problem is still happening with beta 1770329915.

I have a very similar situation.

  1. When Steam is launched, it is maximised.
  2. Then closing and reopening the client window makes it so that the client window does cover the whole screen, but the sides and corners are adjustable, and the maximise button does nothing. So it is as if the window was just stretched across the screen.
  3. Closing the window in this state and reopening it now opens the client window as a smaller window.

Client version 1774577504

I've noticed that actions like entering and exiting Big Picture mode keeps the window maximised, and restore it to maximised state from what I described in the step 2.

A small demonstration video of what is happening:
