Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Once again Steam decided that half of my installed games need an update.
But these are not.
Some of these were installed during yesterday evening.
Played, even.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Start the computer.
  2. Run Steam.
  3. Be bombarded with updates, all of a sudden.

I have but one question: WHY?!

It's keeping happening approx. once a week for few months currently.

Check if you have this option enabled -> "Shader pre-caching"

If so, disable it.
It's useless anyway, it's not really needed since two years, when DXVK introduced the new shader pipeline compilation, which compiles shaders like games in Windows does, so during loading and stuff.

I do have shader pre-caching enabled.
Steam is downloading shaders on demand (on game startup) just fine.
I don't see any point in shader download scheduled to be made in February 6, 2026 , anyway. Implying that it's the case.

Hello @PimpOfSune, the frequency of Steam's shader pre-cache updates is being discussed in general at #8076. Closing in favor of the older issue report.

As I told you: disable it.

Nothing extracted yet.
