Opted into Steam client beta?: Was until the jan 23 update re-enabling the wired version

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:
My pro controller 1 died finally after years of using it. So I went and got the pro controller 2. Did the beta branch then plugged it in and it failed. So I update it on my partners console and upgraded the firmware, but it did nothing. Tried a different wire, no dice. I looked online after being told it worked and they removed it with an update last December. It was added back this week. Which was confusing as fuck. I got it to see it and name it, but it refuses to do anything. I only use wired but tried Blu tooth out to no avail. I see Linux recognizes it using the kernel but I can't get anything to use it.
Steps for reproducing this issue:
Checked in the beta program to see if it worked there. I plugged it in it it didn't work. Not sure what else to put here due to it just being simple and I'm still new to posting on here
