Image

Mouse clicks are often ignored on certain UI elements like context menus (Library/Game/Cog/Properties, Screenshot/Share on Steam, Drop downs in Properties or Settings).

I was not able to upload screenshots, change the proton version or switch to Steam Client Beta because of this!

Demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAADKRjDpm0&t=274s

This was not an issue like 3 days ago and i did not change anything about my system configuration.

Workaround:

Use arrow keys and enter to select an item in a drop down.

For the other UI elements, you can try many times. Sometime it works every 5. time, other times i can click 20 times and nothing happens.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Open Steam
  2. Choose a game in the Library
  3. Click the cog button on the right
  4. Click on "Properties"

Hello @davidak, can you check if Steam -> Settings -> Interface -> check Enable context focus compatibility mode has an effect? Also, please double check if the desktop environment has a focus follows mouse option that changed recently (#6) or if there's been any recent system package updates that might be relevant.

This general topic is being tracked at #9273. Anyone coming across this issue report should go there and add their experience unless they're using the same desktop environment and have seen the same change in behavior in the last 3 days.

The context focus compatibility mode does fix the issue. When i disable it again, i have the issue again.

please double check if the desktop environment has a focus follows mouse option

where the active window changes when moving the cursor over it? no, that is not the behavior i have and i did not find such an option

i also don't have the issue from the linked issue: "all menus and dropdown lists close automatically, when you move the mouse pointer out of it."

Nothing extracted yet.
