For all its worth, Closure isn't technically supported yet (it's not in the Linux category of the shop). That one is a whole separate can of worms.
@MrSchism Well, Closure is working perfectly with "STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam".
This isn't a game related issue.
I'm aware that it's not a game related issue, it's just an oddity.... one I documented here, actually: https://gist.github.com/MrSchism/0bddd20a8015d3bc36c9
Look, mostly, at line 145 & 146.
STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam did not help for me - ThinkPad X201, Intel 3000, Fedora 18 64bits. Black screen :-(
Issue persists.

@bootkiller, can you send strace output?
STEAM_RUNTIME=0 strace -f steam 2>&1 >/tmp/steam_runtime_disabled.txt
STEAM_RUNTIME=1 strace -f steam 2>&1 >/tmp/steam_runtime_enabled.txt
Also, are you comfortable using gdb?
Thanks!
Hi, I tired to run with strace several times, unfortunately the system always hangs about the time the steam client opens.
However I managed to grab a strace of CS launching with "strace %command% > ~/Desktop/trace.out 2>&1" in the launch option until CS hangs. Hope this helps. https://gist.github.com/bootkiller/4739781
I'm not really a developer, but I can do something if it isn't too much complicated.
Thanks.
I'll keep trying the strace on client.
It looks like it's hanging in opening an audio connection.
Can you attach the file /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf.d//pulse.conf?
Also can you run the trace again with strace -f?
Thanks!
I added both here:
https://gist.github.com/bootkiller/4740385
Thanks
Hi,
I am having the same issue: No game is able to start (I have tried half life, CS, TF2 and world of goo demo)
"STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam" fixes the problem with half life (other games untested)
In addition to this, steam system information dialog also stalls when starting steam without setting STEAM_RUNTIME to 0.
I am running KDE 4.9.4.
I include my pulse-alsa.conf.
Thanks to all

Didn't work. Games still hang on launch.
Correction, Cogs and closure are launching now, CS is still hanging.
CS:Source is also hanging.
Can you add a new strace?
Here:
https://gist.github.com/bootkiller/4741364
I've been using CS for the traces.
Other non Valve games are also not working like Shank 2. If you like I can test every game on my library.
I also upgraded to KDE 4.10 after I created this issue.
There's also another issue, the audio stream stopped appearing on Kmix.
Steam is unable to play audio as well, test microphone doesn't work either.
When I'm trying to run "STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam" it complains about missing 32bit libraries. When I start it normally I can play World of Goo without sound, but Darwinia won't run at all.
Can you try downloading these new files and then running the .sh script to put them in your steam installation?

Sorry for being the bearer of bad news but it regressed to the state before update-3.
Anyway, really appreciate that you're working on this issue.
Thanks.
Can you give the the strace with and without the runtime again?
Thanks!
With these patches it become even worse. Darwinia hangs on a black screen and I have to restart my PC. World of Goo won't run at all now. STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam still not working.

trace4.out is too big for github, can you truncate it to 10 MB or so?
There you go.
https://gist.github.com/bootkiller/4742158
Okay, we have a fix! It'll be in the next update. Thanks for all the info! :)
You're welcome, and thanks.
Everything is working.
Once again, thank you.
Thanks a lot for a quick fix!
You're welcome! :)
SDL_Ix1 2013-02SDL_INIT_AUDIOx1 2013-02
With FEB 5 update every game I try to launch hangs a few seconds after it starts loading.
I tried several games, CS 1.6, CS:S, Closure and it happens to all of them the same way.
I thought it might be overlay related so I disable it to no avail.
Starting steam with "STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam" fixes the problem.
