Resizing main window seems to cause jitters

Resizing primary window causes flashing and jitters in addition to the window not properly redrawing (border is large, but bleeds through to background).

When I move mouse of window I see the interface correctly drawn at the right size as it flashes there and the size it was before. Example when full inteface is not shown, but you can tell the interface has been drawn for the larger area.

If I quit steam and reopen..it opens at the resized window size and looks fine until I resize it again.

KDE 4.9.5 on openSUSE 12.2 (tumbleweed).

Seems I can also cause this by minimizing and maximizing the window a number of times (<10 seems to be average). So seems this flickering is fairly flaky and can be caused by a variety of things.

I have perhaps a similar problem. Whenever I resize any Steam window, the UI immediatelly stops refreshing and if the window is made bigger the new area of the window is replaced with an image of whatever is behind that window.

Closing and reopening the window does not fix this issue, in that case the window is completely covered with an image of whatever was behind it at the instance of the window being shown.

Sometimes restarting steam fixes this issue, but other times a complete restart of the WM is required.

I have reproduced this on both Cinnamon and XFCE. Running Arch Linux with AMD Catalyst 13.1 drivers with a Radeon 7750.

I have actually seen similar behavior in desktop movie players so I am going to assume this is a driver issue since those applications never had those issues with the OSS driver and I see you are using same driver.

I'm still experiencing that (very annoying) bug, using Kubuntu 14.10 with kde 4.14.1 and fglrx-updates 2:14.201-0ubuntu2, although I don't even have to resize or move the Steam window ; it just flickers heavily from the start.

One 'workaround' is to disable the desktop effects (with alt+shit+f12), then select the main steam window to give it the focus, then re-enable the effects (still alt+shit+f12). There you have a 1/10 chance that the windows will correctly redraw from now on, so if that does not work, rinse and repeat.
It's not a high chance and is pretty cumbersome, but still better than being unable to use Steam altogether.

I do think it's related to AMD's drivers, since such flickering is not seen when using the default driver or on when using an intel-only machine.

I can confirm I do not ever have this issue when using OSS radeon driver.

Hello, is anyone still experiencing this issue with an up to date system?

AAlexandreBonneau 2017-04-03 github

@kisak-valve nope, not for a long time now.

Note: I moved away from *ubuntu and switched to Debian testing. That and the fact mesa and kde matured 2 years since then could explain why this work perfectly now!
